The American Studies graduate program emphasizes interdisciplinary cultural analysis with approaches from anthropology, architectural history, art history, language, geography, media studies, history, performance studies and political theory.Mary Corbin Sies is an Associate Professor in the Department of American Studies, University of Maryland, College Park. She is the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the department and Co-Director (with Dr. Psyche Williams-Forson) of the Material Culture/Visual Culture Working Group, and (with Dr. Christina Hanhardt) of the Cultural Landscapes Working Group. The Department of American Culture acknowledges the university’s origins in a land grant from the Anishinaabeg (including Odawa, Ojibwe, and Boodewadomi) and Wyandot, and we further acknowledge that our university stands, like almost all property in the United States, on lands obtained, generally in unconscionable ways, from indigenous peoples.
