This weekend I worked on his old Golden. It failed to eject and the action was very stiff. Like so many of my projects the problem was decades of abuse and poor cleaning.Marlin 39 firing pin. I'm sure there is a drift pin in your bolt to remove the firing pin but I would not ...Both my model 99's, one from circa 1920 and the other from the early 1960's, will decock by pulling the trigger back just as the lever closes. When closing the action, you'll feel noticiable increased resistance the last inch or so, that's when to pull the trigger so the sear releases as the action closes the bolt.

Have a low usage 39A nearly mint except for the fact it has started misfiring. Some times it will fire several shots OK but for the most part misfires are more often than not.
