Rimworld prevent infestation

I've been playing rimworld for a while and lost at least 2 colonies to insect infestations and I know that they show up only in mountain bases but there is a way to prevent them from spawning in a specific area? (I have the vanilla expanded insectoids faction mod) You can remove the geneline faction when creating a game. I never tried it. .
